This post is going to highlight a session from one of my favorite spots in Shenandoah National Park:
Big Meadows.
Big Meadows is located almost exactly in the middle of Shenandoah National Park at mile marker 51.2. It’s an incredible, wide open area in the middle of Shenandoah. This spot is so unique and has so many options for your elopement portraits and it’s actually even a favorite amongst star gazers and milky way chasers because of it’s open position high up on the Blue Ridge Mountains.
But the BEST part about Big Meadows is the vantage spot for some stunning sunsets. The setting sun always hits the meadow just right to give that warm, golden glow to your portraits. And, of course, you have the fading colors sinking down below the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop for your perfect elopement portraits.
-Plan for your session to start about 45 minutes prior to the exact sunset time so you can get that beautiful golden hour color and the gorgeous pink and purple glow from the fading light.
-There is wildlife in the meadow so make sure you respect their space and never feed wildlife, it’s against the law.
-Always practice the principles of Leave No Trace.
-If planning your session in the Winter, like Mei & Sergei, make sure to wear layers and alternative shoes to trek around in.
So if you’re looking for an amazing, enchanting, stunning place to take your post-ceremony, engagement, or couple’s portraits at sunset, definitely consider Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park.
